Welcome to our new headquarters, FabONE

Welcome to our new headquarters, FabONE

In an exciting development on our journey to resolving connectivity barriers, our team has just occupied a new headquarters, FabONE, in Aachen, Germany. This move, which took place in January 2025, within only two months, marks a significant milestone in our mission to create the world’s first energy-efficient, high-performance chip technology based on graphene.

A fab for our graphene-based optical chip technology

FabONE is set to become the world’s first production facility for our groundbreaking graphene-based optical chip technology. We are utilizing graphene, a two-dimensional material, to enable optical communication between chips. Our approach promises a remarkable combination of energy savings, increased speed, and improved scalability.

Our semiconductor development and production efforts are poised to make a significant contribution to technological independence for Germany and Europe. As we move forward with our innovative graphene-based optical chip technology, we aim to revolutionize various fields including high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, and robotics.

Our timeline for development and production

We have outlined an ambitious roadmap for the coming years to volume production.

2025: We will start to construct a scalable pilot line for 300mm wafer technology.

2026: After a one year construction phase, our pilot line will become operational.

2027: We will begin pilot production as planned to optimize the processes.

2029: We will transition to volume production, achieving full volume production by 2031.

The Black Semiconductor team moved into its new headquarters in Aachen, Germany, in January 2025 to realize the world's first energy-efficient, high-performance graphene-based chip technology.

More space for growing production and teams

FabONE offers us impressive facilities to support our the growth of both, our technological infrastructure as well as our team. Up to 15,000 square meters of production space for cleanroom and infrastructure construction. Approximately 2,000 square meters of office space for our growing team with capacity to accommodate our current 50 employees and room for expansion to 100 people by the end of 2025.

The opening of FabONE represents the first major milestone for us following our €254.4 million funding round in June 2024. This investment has enabled us to take this crucial step in building the technological infrastructure for our scalable pilot production line of high-performance chip technology.

Dr. Daniel Schall says

The establishment of FabONE allows us to take our current technology developments to the next level and significantly accelerate our progress. We’re excited to continue realizing our vision for the next generation of chip connectivity.
